Window and Siding Replacement in Dyer, IN
Dyer is about twenty minutes from our Crown Point Design Center and it is one of the most consistent markets we work in. Nearly nine out of ten homes here are owner occupied, one of the highest rates in Lake County, and more than half the housing stock went up between 1970 and 1999. The typical Dyer house is somewhere between twenty five and fifty five years old and still wearing its original siding and original windows.
The homes we work on in Dyer
Almost nothing here is truly old. Only about three percent of Dyer homes predate 1940. What Dyer has instead is two big waves of building. The 1970s and 80s produced the split levels and tri levels you see in Highpoint Trails and Northgate Park, and those are the houses now due for a full exterior. Prairie Trails, The Enclave and Village Circle came in around the early 2000s, Pennington in the early 2010s, and Meadow Brooke, Highpoint Prairie, Streamside, Silver Leaf and Summerlin Estates more recently.
A typical Dyer house runs about 2,300 finished square feet on a third of an acre. Worth knowing if you are in one of the newer subdivisions: several have covenants requiring brick or stone on the front elevation, which changes what we can do and what we would recommend. We check that before we quote.
What Dyer weather does to siding and windows
2026 has been a hard year on exteriors in this corner of Lake County, and Dyer has been named in three separate National Weather Service storm surveys.
On June 11 an EF-0 tornado tracked from St. John into Schererville, right next door. On July 27 straight line winds went through Dyer, Munster and Griffith, and an EF-1 ran from Lynwood, Illinois into Munster with 110 mph winds about four miles from town. Then on August 11 the derecho came through. The Weather Service measured an 80 mph gust in St. John, and one of the damage reports filed that morning, just west of Dyer, was photographs of siding stripped off a house.
If your home took anything in those storms, even if it looks fine from the ground, we will come out and look at it. Wind damage to siding and to window seals often does not show up until the next hard rain.
Permits and licensing in Dyer
Dyer requires a permit for any exterior alteration or repair over one thousand dollars, and the town requires every contractor working inside town limits to be registered, bonded and insured. We handle the permit as part of the job. If you are collecting other bids, ask whether they are registered with the Town of Dyer.
